Tensions Deepen in Eastern Traditional Council as Royal Family triggers destoolment of Queen mother over wrong installation of rival Paramount Chief Awulae Blay IX

Tensions seem to deepen over the lingering chieftaincy crises which resulted in breeding two rival chiefs, all hailing from the Royal Ndweafo Family (Aduana family), the occupants and custodians of Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.

There is uneasy calm between purported two factions of the two rival chiefs, leading to counter press conferenceses and accusations for and against supporters of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinle III, the gazetted Paramount Chief and Awulae Blay IX, the rival chief.

The factions of the Royal Ndweafo family have for some months now been battling in court and the media landscape over who becomes the rightful Paramount Chief of the traditional council.

A recent court proceedings held on 22 June, 2026, upheld that Awulae Blay IX should be arrested for holding himself as Paramount Chief and failing to appear before the court through a bench warrant.

This move led to some family members who are believed to be supporters of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinle III to organise a press conference on Wednesday July 1, 2026 at Essiama to reaffirm their support for him as the true Paramount Chief of Eastern NzemaTraditional Area.

The new twist to the ongoing tension has for once triggered the removal of the queen mother over what they term as gross misconduct and disrespect for tradition by the supporters of Awulae Amihere Kpanyinle III, during presser held on Wednesday July 1, 2026 at Essiama, but not the royal grounds of the Paramount stool, where they disclosed that they no longer recognised Nana Ebahemaa Avo Nyimah III, the Paramount Queen mother as the legitimate occupant of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council.

Speaking to the media, Eric Armah, a member of the family, disclosed that the action taken by the queen mother is an affront to the customs and traditions of the family, hence their decision.

He alleged that Ebahemaa Avo Nyimah III, had no locus to install a rival Paramount Chief, whiles there is a legitimate one, despite her fruitless allegations which all turned to be false and went against her at the Regional House of Chiefs.

The family further maintained that there is no ‘Abusua Kpanyinle’ or family head, as the family had not met to appoint anyone since the demise of the former family head and urged the public to disregard any individual who parades himself as one.

Mr Armah further called on the general public to also disregard Awulae Blay IX as a legitimate Paramount Chief of the traditional council since Awulae Amihere Kpanyinle III still remains the occupant of the Ellembelle and have been affirmed by the High Court and the Regional House of Chiefs.
